I started training with Coach Porter after watching my older brother during practice. I was 14 and very shy, and a loner completely controlled by my mind. I could barely go an hour let alone day without one of those "what if something bad happens" thoughts. I had almost no confidence, and although I was fairly intelligent I didn't try in school. After training with Coach Porter I realized a few things: we all have problems and miss-steps in our lives, but you can't dwell on them and let them hold you back. Now I'm not going to say my OCD and anxiety is gone because it’s not, but those bad thoughts and days are few and far between. Honestly, I can't remember my last complete and total meltdown. A situation in which I COULDN'T talk to anyone or do anything, but on those bad days I knew I could talk to Coach Porter and he’d do his best to help me through it. Thanks in large part to my coaches and team mates, I feel like I can do anything and everything I set my mind to, owning a business, competing and hopefully winning a title someday. CHOOSING to go to college and earn a degree, which anyone who knew me when I was 15-16 didn't think that would've happened, because of that fear of failure.
