I am an I.T. professional who spent more than a decade putting on weight and losing muscle in my sedentary job. It seemed like a lot of effort for me to just get out of my chair and do anything physical with any kind of regularity. Walking up the hill to the parking lot at the end of a day had me out of breath and I just did not feel good about myself. I knew I was in horrible shape—267 pounds at 6 feet tall—and needed to do something about it.
I began taking classes twice a week and it didn’t take long for the effects to begin showing. The classes were great and never made me feel like I was failing; I just felt like every week my successes were greater than the week before and I felt motivated to do better still the following week. In the first two months I lost 15 pounds and my cardio was greatly improved. I finished classes feeling powerful and successful.
About 30 pounds down I started paying attention to my diet. I talked with several instructors at the gym discussing diet, nutrition and fitness. Tracking my calorie intake as well as keeping up with my workouts really kicked my weight loss into gear as my fitness levels improved.
I have now been training for just over a year. I have lost 100 pounds and currently weigh in at 167 pounds. My muscle tone continues to improve and my cardio has never been better. I still take classes twice a week and still feel hugely successful after each. PowerFIT encourages us to set goals. My initial goal was to lose 25 pounds, then another 25 and finally to reach a weight of 170 pounds. Now that I have reached that I will set a new goal: to add muscle to my new leaner, healthier frame. I have no doubt at this point that I can reach any goal I set.
