I can honestly say that Power of One MMA has been one of the most positive paths I've ever taken in my life. Before I started, I was nearing 270lbs and was extremely out of shape. After training with the Power of One coaches I have dropped four pants sizes, a shirt size and have lost nearly fifty pounds. In addition to getting in good physical condition, I've also met and shattered my original weight loss goal as well as meeting many new, fantastic people. I feel like I'm finally a part of a small group that can honestly and truthfully say that they look forward to and enjoy working out.

Before being introduced to MMA/PowerFIT classes,I remember looking in the mirror and feeling upset with myself in terms of my weight and eating habits. I was not eating well and considered a short walk my exercise for the day. After graduating college, I knew that I wanted to make something of myself in this world and it hard to start with my personal wellbeing. I needed to boost my self esteem, up my confidence level and drop some of the weight I had put on. A good friend told me to try MMA. Although I was at first unsure, I went for it.

I’ve been taking the PowerFIT classes for the past few months and I’ve had nothing but positive results from it. I originally wanted to take these classes to help build my cardio and endurance. Not only have I achieved both of those I have lost weight and built muscle. My body feels stronger and I am more mentally focused. Prior to attending PowrFit classes I would experience fatigue and burnout quickly and often, now I can push myself to the end of each class. The great thing about these classes is “you” set your limits as to how hard you work.

To be honest, I was looking to join a gym for the winter months when I could not get outside to run, to help keep me on my path to my long term goals of shedding some weight, and gaining some strength. One day, when my son was at his class, the Youth MMA class; I noticed that Power of One also had a PowerFIT class, so I gave it a try. I was hooked after the first class; I loved the energy in the class and how welcoming everyone is. If you are like me, and think that you will look silly (because you don’t know the moves), forget about it.

Power of One has impacted my life in an incredibly positive way. At 39 I had become complacent with my lifestyle and my health. I had stopped challenging myself and was content to remain in my comfort zone believing that I was in good enough shape. I ignored the fact that I was becoming overweight and out of shape and my insulin usage for diabetes was slowly increasing. I had gym memberships and played intramural sports but rarely went to the gym and playing soccer once a week was more of an excuse to get out with my friends.

Two years ago I decided to join MMA under Jason Porter. The effect on my life has been extreme. Within these 2 years I have quit smoking cigarettes and I’m in the best shape of my life. I have made more friends in the last 2 years than I have made the first 28 years of my existence. I have now become a co-owner of Power of One because of the big impact MMA has had on my life. I have been known to have a hot temper which I have better control over and I have accomplished the goal of competing in two cage fights which I never thought possible.

I am an I.T. professional who spent more than a decade putting on weight and losing muscle in my sedentary job. It seemed like a lot of effort for me to just get out of my chair and do anything physical with any kind of regularity. Walking up the hill to the parking lot at the end of a day had me out of breath and I just did not feel good about myself. I knew I was in horrible shape—267 pounds at 6 feet tall—and needed to do something about it.

As a diabetic I was unable to bring my sugar under control with regular exercise. I was always looking for a different way to change up my routine in the gym whether it was weights or on the treadmill, I was also 18 pounds over weight.

MMA is probably the last thing I ever thought I would be doing. I took a chance and tried out a few classes and I was hooked. All my life I have struggled with being overweight and having very little confidence. All throughout school I was the kid that got picked, but I put on a smile to get through the day and then would fall apart when I got home. I lost weight when I entered 11th grade, but did it the wrong way. My eating habits were horrible and I barely exercised. Because of some traumatic events that happened that year I developed an anxiety disorder and OCD.

PowerFIT has been a good "plan of action" for me. I was very inactive prior to joining the Power of One program, now I've lost about thirty pounds and am physically feeling very good. I have been able to increase my joint range of motion and the workout has lengthened and strengthened muscles I wasn't using enough. With the PowerFIT workout comes a lessening of chronic muscle and bone pain, which is a real good thing for this old man of sixty-one years. Thanks to all my coaches at Power of One Sport MMA and Fitness.

I went to the doctor and he told me my cholesterol and triglyceride numbers were too high. I didn't want to go back to the traditional style of martial arts. I have been a big fan of MMA for some time now and when I heard a radio commercial for Power of One Sport MMA and Fitness I thought I would go and see what it was like. I did the PowerFIT classes and found out that was all I needed and I love it. I have lost like 20 pounds and my numbers for cholesterol and triglycerides fell over 100 points each and now I am in the acceptable range for both.

I have lost 25 pounds and been able to maintain that weight loss through training in MMA at Power of One. I have significantly increased my stamina and have found my flexibility to steadily increase as well. At the age of 55 I work out to prevent the health issues that tend to run in my family, like heart disease, high cholesterol and hyper-tension. I recently had some blood work done and the results were all well in the "healthy guy" zone. I also have a fairly stressful job as a salesmen and MMA is a consistent way to help me relieve that stress.

I remember the very first time I wanted to try a PowerFIT MMA class. I wanted to observe a class to see if it would be a good fit for me and my lifestyle. Everyone in the PowerFIT class that morning urged me not to watch but to join in. They told me they feared if I just watched I would chicken out, leave and never return. I started PowerFIT classes that morning never looking back and I'm so grateful I did. Never in a million years did I think I could do the things we do in class. Power of One has changed my life in so many wonderful ways.

I started training with Coach Porter after watching my older brother during practice. I was 14 and very shy, and a loner completely controlled by my mind. I could barely go an hour let alone day without one of those "what if something bad happens" thoughts. I had almost no confidence, and although I was fairly intelligent I didn't try in school. After training with Coach Porter I realized a few things: we all have problems and miss-steps in our lives, but you can't dwell on them and let them hold you back.
